Team SA Performance develops practical mental performance skills for athletes, coaches, tactical performers, and leaders—helping people prepare deliberately, perform effectively under pressure, adapt when conditions change, and learn from experience.
01 / What we do
MENTAL Performance is trainable.
Physical and technical preparation matter, but performers must also be able to access what they have trained when pressure, uncertainty, fatigue, adversity, and evaluation enter the environment. Team SA translates evidence-informed mental performance principles, established theory, and practitioner knowledge into practical skills people can understand, train, and apply.
The performance cycle
01
Train
Develop the capacities, habits, and behaviors performance will require before pressure exposes the gap.
02
Prepare
Direct attention, confidence, intention, and readiness toward the task ahead.
03
Perform
Access trained capabilities, maintain effective action under pressure, and respond when conditions change.
04
Learn
Convert experience into useful lessons that improve the next repetition.

About the founder
Michael “Mike” Cubillos
Michael “Mike” Cubillos is a Marine infantry officer, former Division I wrestler, wrestling coach, endurance adventurer, and performance coach. His interest in mental performance began with a personal question: why could years of preparation produce high capability in training, yet not always translate into the performance he believed he was capable of when competition mattered? Team SA Performance grew from the mental performance framework he wishes he had understood as a competitor—and now applies to his own challenges while helping others develop theirs.
Team SA Performance provides mental performance education and performance coaching. It does not provide psychotherapy, psychological diagnosis, or clinical mental-health treatment.
Mike’s Story
What does SA mean?
SA stands for Self-Actualization—the continuing pursuit of becoming more fully what we are capable of becoming. For Team SA, that pursuit happens through disciplined preparation, meaningful challenge, deliberate practice, honest reflection, and repeated performance. Self-Actualization is the larger philosophy. Performance development is the work.
